Vessie Kazachka was born in Vidin, Bulgaria. She learned embroidery as a child watching her mother and grandmothers. In 1995 she moved to the United States to begin her university degree. After years of focusing on studying and work, she reconnected with traditional Bulgarian embroidery called shevitsa by creating workshops for the children of the Bulgarian community in Southern California. Her passion for textiles and needlework was rekindled, along with her desire to learn more about all traditional Bulgarian embroidery and textile crafts. She shares her knowledge on her YouTube channel “Crafting Shevitsa”, on Facebook and on Instagram @crafting_shevitsa.
