This is a beautiful cotton yukata fabric in a traditionally masculine pattern: kamawanu.
Fabric is sold in half yard increments. If you purchase more than a half yard, you'll receive it in one piece.
This pattern can be found in yukata, tenugui, and other textiles. 'Kamawanu' pattern is formed by the combination of three characters: '鎌' (kama=sickle), '○'(wa=circle) and 'ぬ'(nu), read as "かまわぬ" (kamawanu), which translates to "I don't mind" or "I don't care." This design embodies the unyielding spirit people of Edo (in the 16th-17th century). It originates from a phrase that epitomizes the attitude of Edo townspeople, who were willing to selflessly help the vulnerable by saying, "I don't mind" or "I don't care" when confronted with challenges.
Nellita's Craft is honored to carry the remaining lot of vintage fabric from local artist Sharon Uyeda Fong.
