Explore geometry in a delightfully tactile way this autumn! Join artist Kimberly Kuniko in the shop for a crafternoon spent learning to fold miura-ori, a rigid origami form first invented by astrophysicist Kōryo Miura in 1970 with his original map fold. Learn to fold a geometric herringbone to form a tessellation of parallelograms that allows the paper structure to collapse and unfold in a single motion.
Take home as many squares as you create during our session, and as we fold, you'll have a chance to contribute one of your squares to a group 'paper quilt' that Kimberly will assemble as we go to build one, large group creation.

Kimberly Kuniko (she/her) is a mixed-race Nikkei American illustrator, collage + mixed media artist, and the designer behind Lacelit, a stationery + gift company featuring endearing imagery and clever wordplay. Based in what is now known as Los Angeles, California (unceded Tongva land), her Japanese roots inform her art through a love of paper, finding the connection between things, balancing detail and texture, and layering stories together. She enjoys hosting guided workshops and retreats for creatives of all mediums, and facilitating the Dream & Scheme Community for Small Business Owners.
